Driver Safety Series:
Skid Pad
Half Day Program
Course Overview and Context
This component teaches drivers basic emergency braking, skid control
and collision avoidance techniques through practical in-car training.
Classroom Topics:
Seating
- Demonstrate how a drivers seating position affects vehicle control
- Drivers learn why proximity to vehicle controls, mirror adjustment and hand position are critical factors
- in the operation of a motor vehicle.
Braking
- Demonstrate effective braking techniques and show their effects on steering control
- Drivers learn that improper use of the brakes can result in loss of steering control. Drivers learn
proper braking technique for given situations and are introduced to the effective use of the anti-lock
braking system (ABS)
Vision
- Develop vision techniques and show their effects on vehicle control
- Drivers learn that 95%+ of the information required to operate a motor vehicle comes from information
received from the eyes. Drivers learn vision-tracking skills
Incident Avoidance
- Develop crash avoidance and skid recovery skills
- This incident avoidance simulation will call on drivers to utilize their newly acquired seating, braking
and vision skills learned in the previous exercises. Here drivers learn crash avoidance and skid recovery
techniques. Drivers will also learn what technological advancements the vehicle manufacturers
have made to assist in limiting exposure to risk and injury in the event of a crisis
Who should Attend
All employees who must drive to/at work as part of their job
Learning Outcomes
Drivers learn that the driving environment is constantly changing. Advancing technology in automobiles,
increasing traffic density and methods used to control traffic all contribute to these changes. Techniques
used to manage this change can have a significant impact on a driver’s chance of being involved in a
crisis. The Rolling Classroom reviews with licensed drivers basic skills to help survive on today’s roads.
Through the utilization of basic Vision, Space and Communication skills management, drivers learn how
they can be effectively applied to reduce chances of being involved in a crisis.
While one half of the class covers the theoretical portion of the course in
class, the remainder will be outside on our obstacle course.
Evaluation
A written test , and on road practices
