P.E.I. Trucker Killed When Truck Leaves Road, Rolls Over

According to RCMP, 57-year-old Prince Edward Island trucker was killed in a single vehicle accident at around 11:30 a.m. on July 3, when his truck left the road as it travelled northbound on Highway 1A as it approached the intersection with Route 225, about 15 kilometres east of Summerside.


The trucker, Robert Bruce Dawson of Travellers Rest, was driving a 2008 Mack Tractor, and was hauling gravel when the truck veered off the highway and rolled over.


Police said weather and road conditions were ideal at the time of the accident. The driver was taken to the Prince County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.


The RCMP are attempting to determine what caused the crash. An autopsy is being conducted to try and determine if a medical condition might have been a contributing factor in the accident.
